7 Easy Healthy Snacks - Helping You Conquer Cravings

The best way I've found to conquer cravings is to have the right healthy snacks available at all times. Willpower won't do.

You may successfully fight off your cravings for a while, but food cravings are driven by biological needs.

Your body is craving nourishment. This is a force that will totally overcome the strongest willpower.

So what's the answer?

Give your body what it needs: food!

I conquer my cravings by eating my favorite, healthy snacks. I have chosen foods which are great tasting, healthy, and require no preparation.

They are easy to store, and to carry with you no matter where you go. Of course, they have to taste great, and satisfy your hunger.

Since these are my personal choices, they may not appeal to everyone. But you'll get the idea, and you will see how easy it is to come up with your own healthy choices.

Here are my 7 favorite healthy snacks.

1. Apples

At the top of my list are apples. While there are seemingly countless varieties to choose from, my absolute favorite are Fuji apples.

They are delicious, nutritious, easy to store and carry with you, and they can be eaten by themselves or in conjunction with other food items. They are super versatile, and relatively low in calories.

2. Bananas

I used to buy so many bananas every time I went to the grocery store, that at the checkout counter they used to tease me about buying the food supply for the monkey I must have at home.

It's just that bananas are so delicious, filling, and relatively low in calories. They are loaded with essential potassium to keep you healthy. This is such a perfect snack.

3. Baby Carrots

Baby carrots are almost like potato chips, not in taste, but in the fact that you can eat a whole bunch of them at a sitting without intending to do so.

Yet, you don't have to worry about calories. Baby carrots are sweet, but not overly sweet so they won't mess up your diet.

4. Tunafish

Just so you don't think you are limited to fruits and vegetables, you can eat fish. I like tuna for the taste, convenience, nutritional value, and power to satisfy my hunger.

Since it's a protein, it's very filling and satisfying. It makes a perfect snack right out of the can, or you can make a light lunch out of it.

I personally like to spice the tuna right out of the can with a few drops of Mexican salsa. I use just a small amount of salsa so as not to distort the delicious tuna taste.

5. Celery

For another personal favorite, try celery. Whether you eat it right off the stalk, or chop it up for a salad, it's another nutritious, extremely low-calorie healthy snack.

If you are not too restricted in your calorie intake, you can add some thin strips of cheese for a wonderful, filling treat.

6. Skin-less Chicken Breast

For another choice away from the fruits and veggies, try some leftover chicken breast, sliced into thin strips. Since it's a protein, it is very filling and will satisfy your hunger for quite a while.

You will also be increasing your protein intake for the day. Many of us fall short of the ideal protein requirements. This is mostly because the modern American diet is so full of pasta, breads and sugars.

7. Avocados

I've left avocados for the last item, even though it's one of my personal favorite, healthy food items because many people are turned off due to the relatively high fat and calorie content of avocados.

Avocados have mostly monounsaturated fat, which is not only a healthy fat, but your body literally needs this fat to stay healthy.

So don't be put off by the high fat content; it's all good. And if you eat avocados in moderation, you really don't have to worry about the calories.

Conclusion

Event though I could go on expanding my list of healthy snacks to include many other fruits and vegetables, I want to just offer my 7 top favorites.

You can use these healthy snack items as a guide to come up with your own healthy snacks to suit your personal taste preferences.
